Our
trip will be global and we wanted to raise funds
for a Global cause, as Lisa works for South West
Water, by association she is acutely aware of
the difficulties facing many countries, who need
to source clean drinking water. As a charity WaterAid
are currently trying to raise their public profile
and were recently chosen by TV's Blue Peter programme
as their main charity for 2003. WaterAid are active
at ground level in many of the poorer African
countries we will be visiting, i.e., Tanzania.
Lisa and I will be visiting a number of WaterAid
projects, where we will be participating and lending
a hand in any way we can.
Who
are WaterAid?
WaterAid
is the UK’s only major charity dedicated
exclusively to the provision of safe domestic
water, sanitation and hygiene education to the
world’s poorest people. These most basic
services are essential to life; without them vulnerable
communities are trapped in the stranglehold of
disease and poverty.
WaterAid
works by helping local organisations set up low
cost, sustainable projects using appropriate technology
that can be managed by the community itself.
WaterAid
also seeks to influence the policies of other
key organisations, such as governments, to secure
and protect the right of poor people to safe,
affordable water and sanitation services.
WaterAid
is independent and relies heavily on voluntary
support.

British Heart Foundation. http://www.bhf.org.uk

Lisa's
father 3 years ago suffered from a heart
complaint and underwent emergency surgery,
resulting in a quadruple heart bypass.
The
diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation
Alan underwent was life saving and the BHF
played a major role in his continued recovery.
My Brother-in-law, Professor Underwood,
played a very hands on role during Alan
illness, as he is recognised as one of the
World's leading Nuclear Cardiologist. In
this capacity he is truly at the for front
of Coronary diagnosis and continually pushing
forward the boundaries of research and understanding.
He is of course biased in his support of
our found raising for the BHF.
